Como algunos ya habrán notado el nuevo eslogan del Festival es “un planeta millones de historias” (el eslogan anterior era “cinco continentes, millones de imágenes”).
Entonces, ¿cuál es la razón de este cambio? Podría parecer simplemente una cuestión de gramática y sintaxis, pero en realidad sentimos que este nuevo eslogan captura mejor el espíritu y dirección de nuestro Festival.
El Festival busca ser una ventana a través de la cual el público pueda no solamente ver imágenes del mundo, sino que pueda realmente conocer y sentir las historias y experiencias de diversos lugares del planeta. Año con año buscamos estas narrativas que nos muestran un lado particular de la experiencia humana: ya sean los enredos amorosos de un grupo de amigos en Canadá (Les amours imaginaires de Xavier Dolan en el 2011), la búsqueda de un hombre por su padre que lo lleva a hacer un viaje de Alemania a Líbano (Alias de Jens Junker en el 2010) o una noche de karaoke y catarsis en Finlandia (Kolme viisasta miestä de Mika Kaurismaki en el 2009). Aunque muchas cosas nos separan-la cultura, el idioma y la misma distancia-al ver estas historias nos damos cuenta que son muchas más las cosas que nos unen.
¿Qué historias se contarán este año? En unos meses más lo sabremos…
As some of you might’ve noticed, the slogan of the festival has changed to “one planet, millions of stories (the previous slogan was “five continents, millions of images”)
Then, what was the reason for this change? It could appear as a simple matter of grammar or syntax, but we really feel that this new slogan better captures the spirit and direction of the Festival.
The Festival tries to be a window through which the public can not only view pictures of the world, but can also know and feel the stories and experiences of different places in our planet. Year after year we look for narratives that show us a particular side of the human experience- whether it’s the love misadventures of a group of friends in Canada (Les amours imaginaires by Xavier Dolan in 2011), the search of a man for his father that takes him on a journey from Germany to Lebanon (Alias by Jens Junker in 2010) or a night of karaoke and catharsis in Finland (Kolme viisasta miestä by Mika Kaurismaki in 2009). Although lots of things separate us- culture, language and even distance- after seeing these stories we realize that there are way more things that bring us together.
Which stories will be told this year? We’ll know in a few months…
